The Geophysics Study Program is one of the study programs in the management of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University. The Department of Physics was established based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education, DEPDIKBUD No. 1637/D2/1994, dated June 2, 1994. In line with the development of science and technology at that time, especially in the field of Earth Physics, the Department of Physics opened a Geophysics interest. To meet the demand for graduates who are experts in the field of Geophysics, the Department of Physics proposed the Geophysics interest to become a Study Program. In 1996, the Geophysics Study Program (PSG) was officially established with the issuance of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 234/DIKTI/KEP/1996 dated July 11, 1996. Since the start of the Geophysics Study Program, the curriculum has changed 5 (five) times, starting from the Content-Based Curriculum (KBI) until 2008, the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) since 2010, the Competency-Based Curriculum referring to the 2014 KKNI, and in 2018 an evaluation of the 2014 curriculum was carried out which was called the 2018 Higher Education Curriculum (KPT). Furthermore, an evaluation of the 2018 KPT was carried out, which should have been evaluated because it had been valid for 5 (five) years and also to adjust the policy of the Minister of Education and Culture regarding the Independent Learning-Independent Campus Program. The 2023 KPT was prepared based on Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012 concerning KKNI, Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, and Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 3 of 2020 concerning National Standards for Higher Education.
Evaluation and development of the competency-based curriculum are based on the development of science, technology, arts, and culture (IPTEKSBUD) and stakeholder needs that are aligned with the curriculum standardized by the government, namely the Higher Education Curriculum based on the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI).
