Makassar, November 5, 2024 – As part of the activities at the International Conference of Geosciences and Geotechnology 2024 (ICOGEST 2024), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) signed a memorandum of understanding with Leica Geosystem, a leading company in geospatial technology. The cooperation agreement was signed by the Vice Rector for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil., and the CEO of Leica Geosystem, represented by Gilang Widya Wisaksana, S.T., MBA. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., along with the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Prof. Dr. Eng. Amiruddin, M.Si.

This partnership aims to enhance UNHAS’s capabilities in utilizing geospatial technology and open up research and development opportunities involving students and lecturers in geophysics, geology, and other earth sciences. Leica Geosystem will provide support that enables UNHAS to enrich its curriculum and laboratories with advanced geospatial and digital mapping technologies.
Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana stated that this cooperation is a strategic step to strengthen the partnership between academia and industry in advancing geospatial technology research and application in Indonesia. “This collaboration is a form of UNHAS’s commitment to continuously innovate and integrate high technology in learning and research. We believe this partnership will provide broader access for students and lecturers to engage directly with industry-relevant technologies,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Leica Geosystem expressed his pride in partnering with UNHAS as one of Indonesia’s leading universities. “We believe that with the spirit of collaboration and innovation championed by UNHAS, this cooperation will have a positive impact on the geospatial and mapping technology sector, not only for academic purposes but also in making tangible contributions to national development,” he remarked.
This collaboration marks an important step in strengthening the industry-academia relationship, allowing UNHAS to play a greater role in the development of geospatial technology at both national and international levels. The ICOGEST 2024 event witnessed the beginning of this collaboration, which is expected to bring significant benefits to the advancement of science and technology in Indonesia.
